Connie & Josh’s
Irish Wedding
Festivities

August 16th -18th, 2024

We’re so excited!

Having officially tied the knot in Brooklyn in April 2022 during lockdown, we missed the opportunity to party with you.
So, we invite you to join us for a weekend celebration in Connie’s home town Sligo.

Those of you who know Josh know he's incredibly relaxed and easygoing, while Connie can be a perfectionist, and delights in a bit of style and a bit of a giggle.

We planned the weekend to encompass parts of both of our personalities – a relaxed gathering filled with dear friends, cherished family, and, of course, some good old Irish craic.

One weekend isn't long enough to truly explore Sligo, but here are some highlights for you Loveens to enjoy…

A Weekend in Sligo

Sligo is Connie’s favorite place in the world and herself and Josh cant wait to share it with you all.

Despite the frequent Atlantic winds bringing rain, this part of the world throws magic at you whatever weather greets you. There is so much to explore and enjoy. Relaxing Seaweed Baths in Strandhill, walks along sweeping beaches of Cullenamore, climbing Knocknarea mountain, and visits to historic sites like Carrowmore's megalithic cemetery - there's no shortage of activities. Whether kayaking on Loch Gill or simply enjoying a pint, Josh and I can’t wait to share this memorable weekend with all of you.

So do email us with any questions.

FRIDAY

Dinner 6.30pm
For those journeying from afar, we'd love for you to experience a proper Irish Pub. Harrgadon's Pub holds particular significance, as it’s situated just a few meters from where Connie's Dad, Declan, grew up on John Street.

Today, Harrgadon's is also home to a charming restaurant that celebrates local produce. Join Connie and Josh and Bea and their Parents for dinner and a pint of Guinness after your long journey.

SATURDAY

  • 1.00pm - Outdoor Ceremony, Rosses Point

Meeting at the Fish & Bean carpark we will walk along the coast path to the lookout across to Coney Island. dont worry, you wont get lost.

We were legally wed in Brooklyn Borough Hall on April 29th 2022. For this occasion we want to have the ceremony feel more celebratory! It’s also an opportunity to share our wishes and commitment to each other and have you all there with us when doing so. It will be rather unconventional and relaxed.

  • 1.30pm - Wedding Lunch at Fish & Bean

We will retire to one of our favorite spots in Sligo, Fish & Bean seafood restaurant in Rosses Point. Where we will have the pleasure of tasting some incredible locally sourced seafood and produce for our wedding meal while taking in the beautiful views of Sligo Bay, Oyster Island and Coney Island.

We weren't planning on having traditional wedding speeches, but we will certainly raise a few glasses over the afternoon.

  • 3.30pm - Drinks by the Sea, at Austie's

In lieu of our original idea to spend a full day on Coney Island (see below) we agreed on a view of the Island from the mainland instead.

Austie’s has a beautiful old pub in Rosses Point village with a restaurant and outdoor seating (if we get the sun) so we have options to watch the sea, or pop inside and listen to live music.

We’ll have small bites served at 6.30/7pm also.

SUNDAY

11am-3pm
Coney Island walk (and swim) with breakfast and pints.

Just off the coast of Sligo is Connie’s favorite place, Coney Island. Come here rain or shine and you will feel like you are on the edge of world. It is magical. We hope you can take the day to come explore, maybe have a swim or find the Islands famous Wishing Chair. The island is 1½ miles long by ¾ mile across, so it won't take you long to see the island in its entirety.

Those looking to experience Coney Island can get a boat from the pier at Rosses Point, but the most popular route is by way (by foot or by car) on Cummeen Strand when the tide is out.

This strand is exposed at low tide and is marked by 14 stone pillars for a distance of 3 mile leading to the island.

We will hang out at Michael J. Wards’ Pub on the Island which has been there for generations. We will eat some sausages, have a pint and some taytos after our walk.

Rest assured that Marie and Christophe who own the pub, will take care of us.

We’ll have a bus take people across to the island and back - and for people who want to stay past 3pm when the tide comes in, you can stay till 8pm.

Located in County Galway, Connemara National Park is one of Ireland's six national parks. The majority of the land had previously been part of the Kylemore Abbey estate. Evidence of human settlement across the park include 4,000-year-old megalithic court tombs and a 19th-century graveyard.

Comprising three thousand hectares of mountains, bogs, heaths, grasslands and woods, Connemara National Park is a nature-lover's paradise; home to countless native species including red deer, wild ponies and peacock butterflies. The park is also home to several of the famous Twelve Bens range of mountains. Dedicated walkers will find plenty of challenge here, but easier strolls can also be found on nearby Diamond Hill.

  • Cliffs of Moher

Big Cliffs, lots of birds, you’ll probably get pooped on.

  • Dingle Peninsula

Beautiful Coastline of County Kerry. A bit too touristy for my liking but it is stunning.

FAQs

(We’ll update these as questions arise)

What is the dress code?

Everyone is encouraged to wear what makes them feel most comfortable.

Connie enjoys dressing up, even for small occasions, while Josh is happiest in jeans and a tee. Since today is a significant event, we would love for you to wear something that makes you feel comfortable, perhaps with some color or a touch of flair.
Remember, it's the west coast of Ireland where the weather can be unpredictable. There will be times during the day when we'll be outside, so please bring an extra layer or two.

What is the venue like?

We decided against a traditional hotel wedding and instead chose to share our favorite places in Sligo with you, so there isn't a single venue. The ceremony will be outdoors, followed by a lunchtime meal. We will enjoy the afternoon with music and drinks, and have snacks before bed. Since several events will be outdoors, please bring an extra layer.

Gifts?

Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift. However, for those who feel compelled to give, a poem, a song, or a contribution to our day would be deeply appreciated.

Should we hire a car?

If you are flying in from the US and traveling to Sligo from Dublin, taking the train will be just as convenient as renting a car. Uber is available in Ireland, and we will provide local taxi numbers on the website closer to the day. We will arrange transportation for people visiting Coney Island on Sunday.
